The Last Day
Yesterday was the last day of shooting for 51 Degrees. With it being the final day it was inevitably a very hectic space to be in which therefore impaired my ability to keep up with and record all that was happening around me and sadly this post may suffer as a consequence. Nevertheless, the following is what I managed to capture on the final day.
I began the day at Embankment Station where I learnt that only six out of the 16 cameraman the director had wanted actually showed up.…

The Tunnel and the Knife
Yesterday, the location was Leake Street, close to Waterloo station with a tunnel of a few-hundred metres apparently known as the ‘Banksy Tunnel’ running through it. At the end of this tunnel was where a little bit more of 51 Degrees was going to be filmed.
The Banksy Tunnel is a graffiti tunnel; it was also the…

The Last of the Piccadilly Chaos
Earlier this morning, I arrived at Trafalgar Square at about nine o’clock to meet with some of the already waiting cast and crew. They were accompanied by a few extras that would be needed for today’s filming needed to complete the Piccadilly chaos.
When approaching the group, I noticed a big yellow sign…

Hampstead Heath and Greg's Double
The destination was Hampstead Heath but before going off to meet up with the cast and crew of 51 Degrees, I first met with Scott Buxton who had been given the task to go and and hunt down some beer for the crew.
With the beer found and purchased, we soon set off to re-join those filming who had set up on Parliament Hill, the highest point in London. The weather was pretty much perfect, being sunny and not too hot, and walking through the park I never knew before existed (regardless of…

In the Producer's Garage
It was just shy of 5:00 PM when there were 15 people piled into the small one bedroom flat that has become the office for 51 Degrees. Damon had now arrived and the film no longer belonged to pre-production - it was ready to be finished.
Despite the office being incredibly over-populated, the place continued to function with each room…

My Time in the Office
Last night, I began my first trip to the office. There was a meeting at 6 and I was determined not to get lost again trying to find 51 Degrees.
I arrived on time and outside I met John Haslam the assistant director and we went in together. As we climbed the stairs, John warned me of Snoopy and Frenzi, the two dogs set to appear in the film, that live in the office and whose presence could be very much heard whilst approaching.
After meeting Greg and Alex, I said a quick…

My Time in Make-up
Last night, after wandering around Piccadilly Circus for the better part of half an hour looking for the ‘Piccadilly chaos’, I finally found myself looking straight at Greg Richters and the crew of 51 degrees.
The crew were watching about 30 extras stood together with troubled-expressions looking up at the Piccadilly Lights. Nearby I found Alex Souabni who explained to me what was currently happening and he then took me down to the Trocadero underground, a space between…

Permanence is but a word of degrees.
Did you know that people stand an equal chance of dying on an airplane as they do at the mercy of an asteroid?
A recent study worked out the probability of dying from selected causes, the results suggested that the chances in an aircraft carrier crash and at the mercy of a comet/asteroid impact both equate to about a 1 in 20,000 chance. These were superseded by dying in a flood (1 in 30,000) or a tornado (1 in 60,000). This is one of the founding statistics that 51 degrees is…

The feature 51 Degrees
51 degrees project was exciting, unpredictable and enjoyably challenging. I shiver with pleasure when I think of the actual filming and the static in the air which attracted everybody in a mile radios to come and have a look on what is London serving them again. The adrenalin, the joy and smile on everybody’s face made it all priceless. The film and production process was very carefully and professionally planned and executed. And as every great beginning met numerous challenges which just…

Getting involved in “51 Degrees”
Our movie is constantly evolving and we are always on the look out for new people, new ideas, new tactics... Right now we have entered an exciting period for the movie: we are working on the marketing campaign for our feature.
We need a marketing team, a PR team, and 3 different teams to take care of the advertising and promotional stuff for the lead up to the release of “51 Degrees” in May 2012.
So if…

Scene of the Movie - Sunrise in 30 seconds
I shot this timelapse as part of the production of 51 Degrees, an independent feature film directed by Greg Richters, due for release in 2012.
This was an incredibly eventful day in the production of this movie. We knew the plan - for a production crew of about 20 people to scale this building at night, with cameras, lighting gear, an electricity generator and lots of red bull! However this soon proved to be more difficult than first envisioned.…
